Wordpress Themes and Plugins Competitions

Two Wordpress competitions are taking place simultaneously one is for Wordpress Plugins and another for Wordpress themes. There is more than $1000 in Prizes to be won, more than the prize money this gives an opportunity for Wordpress users to contribute and give back something to the Wordpress community. There is a time period of 2 months, so you have a lot of time to decide and work on your Theme and Plugin. I am personally looking forward to the Theme Design Competition and hope to see some really cool themes, since I have exhausted my list of Wordpress themes for my monthly “Best Wordpress themes” series.

The Wordpress Theme Design Competition

Prizes

• First prize. The Contest champion will win US$500.
• Second prize. The Contest second-place winner will win US$300.
• Third prize. The Contest third-place winner will win US$200.
• Runner-ups. The Contest runner-ups will receive honorariums.

Here is a brief summary of of the submission rules

1. Designs will be created for the Sandbox theme, version 0.9.x
   1. All designs will be limited to style sheets (CSS) and images (no theme PHP mods)
   2. Submissions must be in full accordance with Submission Procedures (below)
2. Designs must be wholly original, sole works of the submitting designer(s)
   1. Designs must be released with GNU General Public License or compatible license
   2. Designs may not be included for judging if deemed offensive or inappropriate
3. Submissions must be submitted by 12:00 AM (UTC), Sunday, July 29, 2007
   1. All submissions are final, i.e. , you may not later resubmit a revised version
   2. Designs may only be released publicly after submissions close
4. Results will be announced at 12:00 AM (UTC), Monday, August 6, 2007
   1. Judgments shall be considered final and complaining left to a minimum
   2. Winners shall receive cash awards at verified PayPal accounts within 48 hours.

I am also keeping a watch on the Plugin competition. I have decided to take part in the Wordpress theme competition and make a Free Wordpress Theme. I want to give 100% of my time and energy to this theme with the few hours of free time that I have everyday after work. Expect me to post less on the blog in the coming month.
