WordPress 2.2 Has Been Released

The WordPress development Team has released WordPress 2.2 its been labeled “Getz”

Here’s A list of new things in WordPress. Nothing ground breaking the new tagging system didn’t make it in.

  • WordPress Widgets allow you to easily rearrange
    and customize areas of your weblog (usually sidebars) with
    drag-and-drop simplicity. This functionality was originally available
    as a plugin Widgets are now included by default in the core code,
    significantly cleaned up, and enabled for the default themes.
  • Full Atom support, including updating our Atom
    feeds to use the 1.0 standard spec and including an implementation of
    the Atom Publishing API to complement our XML-RPC interface.
  • A new Blogger importer that is able to handle the
    latest version of Google’s Blogger product and seamlessly import posts
    and comments without any user interaction beyond entering your login.
  • Infinite comment stream, meaning that on your Edit
    Comments page when you delete or spam a comment using the AJAX links
    under each comment it will bring in another comment in the background
    so you always have 20 items on the page. (I know it sounds geeky, but
    try it!)
  • We now protect you from activating a plugin or editing a file that will break your blog.
  • Core plugin and filter speed optimizations should make everything feel a bit more snappy and lighter on your server.
  • We’ve added a hook for WYSIWYG support in a future version of Safari.

In addition there were also dozens of UI and accessibility
improvements, ranging from more concise wording around options and
links to things like a view and preview link above the content box when
you’re editing a post or page.

Wow thats cool. WordPress is going very fast in releasing new versions. But I’ll prefer waiting with my WP 2.1 for BIG ONE ! :P

Great review anyways! :D

WordPress 2.2 Updated.

HI I now get this on the DashBoard

You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/index-extra.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Any Idea’s why?

Do i need to uninstall the older version. How can i Install it over old one ?

look at the codex for detailed instruction http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress

I usually delete old WordPress files

Delete the old WordPress files

Why Delete? Generally, it is a good idea to delete whatever is possible because the uploading (or upgrading through cPanel) process may not correctly overwrite an existing file and that may cause problems later.

DO NOT DELETE these folders and files:

* wp-config.php file;
* wp-content folder;
* wp-images folder;
* wp-includes/languages/ folder–if you are using a language file, do not delete this folder;.
* .htaccess file–if you have added custom rules to your .htaccess, do not delete it;
* Custom Content and/or Plugins–if you have any images or other custom content or Plugins inside the wp-content folder, do NOT delete them.
