Facebook Hack : Switch Or Turn Off Facebook Lite To Default

I was using Facebook when I saw the ad on the side recommending me to switch to Facebook lite for a faster and better user experience. So I clicked on it hoping to change back to the regular Facebook interface once I was done with exploring Facebook Lite. Facebook lite is an simplified version of Facebook, that lets you use facebook without the clutter of various Facebook Applications spamming your Wall and Feed. But the funny thing is there was no link anywhere which I could use to switch back to the regular interface. I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to Switch off the Facebook Lite Interdface change back to the default Facebook interface. I could see that the URL of the the Facebook Lite page was http://lite.facebook.com/ and when I tried entering http://facebook.com/ it would redirect me back to http://lite.facebook.com/. After a lot of hunting around I found a couple of solutions.

Official way to Switch off Facebook Lite

On the top right hand corner before the search box you’ll see two small icons, the first on looks like a spanner click this, this will take you to the facebook lite settings page.

Now click on default site

Select. When I go to Facebook.com, show me, Regular Facebook. and click save you should be done. You also have the option of checking Let me switch between regular Facebook and Facebook Lite If you select this option, a blue bar will appear at the top of Facebook that enables you to switch back and forth between the two versions i.e Facebook Lite and the default Facebook Interface.

Use The Facebook Feeback Form

Scroll way down to the bottom of the facebook lite interface at the bottom you’ll see a small link called feedback click this., You’ll see a new page at the top it will say Looking to get back to the regular Facebook? Just click here. Just click the given link it should turn off the Facebook Lite interface and send you back to the regular Facebook interface.

Other Methods are listed below but not Guaranteed to work.

Change Facebook URL Link

You’ll notice that the Url has changed to http://lite.facebook.com/ just change this back to http://facebook.com/. This doesn’t work all the time you can try to use http://lite.facebook.com/home.php

Clear Your browser Cookies and Cache

Clear your browser cookies and cache and try logging into facebook again, the facebook lite interface should be gone now.
For Internet Explorer users go to your menu bar and click Tools –> Internet Options –> Delete Cookies and Delete Files
For Firefox Users go to your menu bar and click Tools –> Clear recent History –> Select all the options and click Clear all

Facebook Chat, Google Gtalk Intergration Coming Soon

A year back Facebook had announced that they were building a XMPP interface for Facebook Chat. Which is the same protocol that Google has used to build Google Gtalk, Google’s popular Instant messaging service. Process One’s bot IMTrends has detected that Facebook has implemented the Jabber/XMPP Protocol.

So what is XMPP? XMPP formerly called Jabber, is a messaging protocol based on XML. The Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) is an open technology for real-time communication, which powers a wide range of applications including instant messaging, presence, multi-party chat, voice and video calls, collaboration, lightweight middleware, content syndication, and generalized routing of XML data. Unlike most instant messaging protocols, XMPP is an open standard. Like e-mail, it is an open system where anyone who has a domain name and a suitable Internet connection can run their own XMPP server and talk to users on other servers. The standard server implementations and many clients are also free and open source software.

This is big new this means you’ll be able to chat with Gmail and Google users. This means Google users will be able to interact with Facebook users using the same IM Chat clients. Which means you’ll be soon able to use Facebook chat on any of your favorite instant messaging desktop or web based clients.

OpenSocial, OpenBox, OpenMedia What the Hells Going On?

A few days back google announced OpenSocial, its so called open API for social networks. Box.Net today annouced the launch of OpenBox, a platform for developers to integrate their web applications into Box.net. And Bebo announced Open Media platform, a way for media brands to build a presence in the community with music and video content.

Readwriteweb author Marshall Kirkpatrick rightly questions is Google Exercising Leadership or Control? I happen to think this is all about gaining control. Google, knew very well that they were incapable of creating a social-network that would become as big as MySpace or Facebook which is evident from the failure of Orkut which has mostly been dominated by Brazilians and Indians(take a look at the public stats page you need to be signed into Orkut to view it). The growth of facebook over the past months has show how opening up a platform to developers, can have a exponential/big impact on on how users use their services.

And suddenly we have API coming up every where. The fact is most of these API aren’t really open and are mostly tied up to their own platform or are severely restricted in terms of usage.

How about the recent announcement about Android

Today Google released the Android code and I took a serious look at its internals… and found the solution for the licensing problem. Itâ€™s called Dalvik and itâ€™s the new name of Sunâ€™s worst nightmares.

Dalvik is a virtual machine, just like Javaâ€™s or .NETâ€™s.. but itâ€™s Googleâ€™s own and theyâ€™re making it open source without having to ask permission to anyone (well, for now, in the future expect a shit-load of IP-related lawsuits on this, especially since Sun and Microsoft signed a cross-IP licensing agreement on exactly such virtual machines technologies years ago… but donâ€™t forget IBM who has been writing emulation code for mainframes since the beginning of time).

OpenSource Fighting against OpenSource? I guess the GPL wasn’t open enough. Proof that GPL is not a solution for all opensource projects especially for commercial solutions. Google was smart enough to realise not many would invest or touch Android if it was released under a GPL licence. Heck they even have a FAQ about this. Why are you releasing the code under the Apache Software License instead of GPLv2?

Window Live Launches Messenger Web Widget

The Window Live Messenger Team has launched a web based Messenger widget that can be embedded in blogs and website. This is similar to the widgets provided by meebome.com and plugoo.com. But unlike meebo and plugoo which are flash based this widget is javascript based. Using this widget even anonymous users who visit your blog can send you an IM which will pop-up in your Windows Live messenger. See the screen shots below. I have played around with the meebo and plugoo gadgets and personally feel they are very unproductive and a huge time waster if you install it on a site that gets lots of hits. I once installed it on my blog a really long time back and was constantly bombarded with IMs. While I did meet a few interesting readers most users are likely to abuse it.

Flock 1.0 Released

Flock 1.0 has been officially released. For those of you who don’t know what Flock is, it is basically a Firefox based web browser. However, it has some amazing features that Firefox don’t have. Much of what makes Flock so special is it’s social networking tools. Some of the features of Flock are:

Get A Wallop Invite An Awesome Social Network

Microsoft has been working on its social network called Wallop for quite sometime now. I had an account on wallop when they had launched, I tried logging in today but it didn’t allow me to login since I had been inactive for a really long time. After reading Muhammad Saleem Post and Screenshots I was intrigued. The first thing I did was to hunt on Google for a wallop Invite, but from experience I have learned that only the old sites which have exhausted their invites turn up, so I turned to Technorati the first blog to get listed was Muhammad Saleem’s I went right over there and got a invite in a instant. If you want to be invited head over there, or post a comment here. I request you to invite other people once my invites are over. Here’s what he has to say about it wallop.

where the site excels, apart from its incredibly (can’t stress this enough) beautiful and intuitive interface, is that Wallops brings all these features together to make a highly cohesive and functional whole.

Myspace Hack : Profile url And MySpace Email

Here is another article in my series of How to Hack MySpace, where I’ll show case various tips, tricks and method to hack MySpace Profiles, friends etc and customise and make it more applealing to get more friends.

If you have signed up for MySpace there is a little less know featured its called the MySpace Vanity Url. Basically this hack for MySpace profile lets you get a good looking URL for you MySpace Profile so that your friends and family can easily remember your MySpace Profile without the need to remember those funny looking numbers for the Profile or the need to bookmark the Profile Page. This way you can easily connect with your friends and family.

Below I have outlined step by step on how to use this Hack for the Profile url.

MySpace Hack For Profile URL

Step 1 : Goto MySpace.com and Login to your MySpace Account with your UserName and PassWord.

Step 2 : On your MySpace Profile page on the top left corner you should see a link which says. Hello Your “MySpace UserName”, You should see the words “Pick Your MySpace URL”. Click on this link. Take a look at the picture below

Step 3 : Next you’ll be show a page which allows you to choose Your Myspace URL and Name, Enter the the Url of your choice into the boxes provided. And Click Submit, You’ll get two confirmation alert boxes telling you that you can never change your MySpace URL. Once you clicked both the confirmation boxs if the name you chose is available you can go to the next step else you’ll have to repeat the steps.

Step 4 : You’ll now see a page where you need to confirm Your First and Last Name. Click Submit or Skip

Step 5 : Thats it you have successfully hacked MySpace to get yourself a great looking Profile URL that you can now share with your friends. Just copy the Profile URL and send it to all your Friends.

MySpace Hack For MySpace Email

Step 1 : First Open your Browser type in MySpace.com now enter your UserName and Password to Login to your MySpace Account. On you Profile Page click the Mail Tab that you see on the top left corner.

Step 2 : You’ll see a Welcome screen which says get your MySpace Email, and a Screen to choose your email ID. Enter a User name of your Choice this can be anything if the Email ID is available you can move to the next step.

Step 3 : You’ll be asked to confirm your Email. Warning you cannot change your Email ID so choose carefully, since there is no way to hack or tip to change the ID.

Step 4 : You can skip this step by clicking Skip or you can enter you Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, Live, Rediff, Or IndiaTimes Email ID and PassWord and let your friends know about the new MySpace Email address you just got.

Step 5 : You’ll be shown a Welcome Screen

Email Successful

Step 6 : Now you can go to your new official MySpace Email Inbox, and a welcome mail from MySpace.
