A year back Facebook had announced that they were building a XMPP interface for Facebook Chat. Which is the same protocol that Google has used to build Google Gtalk, Google’s popular Instant messaging service. Process One’s bot IMTrends has detected that Facebook has implemented the Jabber/XMPP Protocol.

So what is XMPP? XMPP formerly called Jabber, is a messaging protocol based on XML. The Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) is an open technology for real-time communication, which powers a wide range of applications including instant messaging, presence, multi-party chat, voice and video calls, collaboration, lightweight middleware, content syndication, and generalized routing of XML data. Unlike most instant messaging protocols, XMPP is an open standard. Like e-mail, it is an open system where anyone who has a domain name and a suitable Internet connection can run their own XMPP server and talk to users on other servers. The standard server implementations and many clients are also free and open source software.

This is big new this means you’ll be able to chat with Gmail and Google users. This means Google users will be able to interact with Facebook users using the same IM Chat clients. Which means you’ll be soon able to use Facebook chat on any of your favorite instant messaging desktop or web based clients.

This post was guest blogged by Dev Basu. He is an established internet marketer and serial entrepreneur, based in Toronto, Canada. Daily Moolah dot Com covers topics such as blog monetization, affiliate marketing, Wordpress SEO, PPC advertising and much more.

Zeitgeist! No I didn’t sneeze…but there sure seems to be a trend about Apple going on in these guest posts. While Arpit’s taking time off from Clazh designing a Wordpress theme, I’ll try to shed some light on what all this buzz about Apple’s iPhone means for bloggers worldwide.

Establish Your Niche Early On : ‘iPhone’ is currently the 7th most popular search term on Technorati, with over 1700 blogs dedicated to Apple’s brand new ‘uber’ device. Lesson learnt bloggers – Get in on the game early on, because you are competing in a niche with over 306,337 posts at last count.

Press Release Your Way to Buzz-dom: Ok, so buzz-dom isn’t a real word, because I just made it up. But neither is ‘iPhone’. Apple’s marketing campaign has been ingenious to say the least, and hopefully your blog (and mine for that matter) will share a fraction of that success. Establish the same buzz Apple did by issuing a Press Release for your blog or website. You will be surprised to know how many bloggers haven’t considered a Press Release a viable way of boosting their blog’s popularity. Find out more here

Dare to be Different: Touch technology, task scheduling, and the ability to play mp3’s on your mobile phone aren’t all that revolutionary. But the iPhone is as successful as it is because Apple dared to be different, and so should you. I’m talking about uncommon wordpress themes, opinionated posts, disruptive content that makes you and your brand stand out among the rest of the herd.

But Don’t Re-invent the Wheel : Wait a minute – didn’t I just suggest being different from the rest? Yes, be different in your design, content, and opinion. But in doing so, choose technology, platforms, and design that is tried and tested in your niche. The iPhone, while touted as an all-in-one uber device, is still a phone at its core. Similarly, be the best you can be at being an authoritative blogger, coder, or marketeer. In code speak, why use flash when valid CSS is the prevailing standard?

Keep it Simple Sherlock – Is your blog easy enough for a one year old to use? Apple’s iPhone sure is based on this YouTube video. The key here is to have usability and interoperability at the top of your priorities when going about your blog. Make your RSS feed more accessible, your blog easier to navigate, and yourself easier to reach.

I decided to take a look at the Browser called Flock again after a year.

Flock is a browser based on the Firefox / Mozilla Code base that was launched with a lot of Hype and internet Buzz around this time last year. I was particularly intrigued since I loved the look and feel and it felt like a refreshed Firefox running on Steroids it was labeled as a Web 2.0 The Social browser. Though even after the release of Firefox 2.0 they have not yet update the code base.

It is being developed by some Ex-Firefox Promoters.

Based on the Mozilla code base hence it is Multi platform and Open Source.

Great Eye-Candy Interface.

Inbuilt tools and support for Web 2.0 Services and blogging Platforms

Interestingly when Flock was released the Founder decrem said (He left Flock a while back).

Flock is not interested in forking the Mozilla code-base”.”Further, we don’t want to break anyone’s Firefox experience, or have our browser break, due to updates either way that have not been fully tested propagated. In the short term, that means that fewer people will play with our stuff, but over the long term we believe it’s the right way to go for us.

To the question “Why not an extensions?” He goes on to say

We want to be able to offer our users a complete end-to-end user experience, including a single browser download, an update service, technical support. the works.

So how does a open source product such as Flock profit. For one they have tied up with Yahoo with their search engine as the default for Flock also the Flock Start up page features a custom search Page using Yahoo. Similarly Photobucket has tied up Flock to release a special version of Flock where Photobucket users can upload and browser through their photos and pictures.

The initial releases for flock suffered from major memory leaks and bugs. Though the current versions are pretty stable. Flock has a lot of potential but it looks like the enthusiasm with which it was launched has slowed down or run dry, since its release I have hardly seen any new, major features. Most of their releases till this point have been only bug fixes. The features from Flock that I found most appealing were the Blog Editor which was similar to ScribeFire(previously called performancing extension) and the nifty Flickr top bar, though now I prefer ScribeFire to flock’s Blog Editor since it doesn’t load in a external window.

The Rss feed reader in flock needs a lot of work since I found it extremely slow and a huge memory hogger. The Rss feed Reader is fine for People with a few feed in the range of 20-50 but anything more than that can ruin your browsing experience I have more that 300 plus feeds .

I checked up the traffic to Flock’s website using Alexa and results are not very positive. The traffic seems to be steadily declining over the past few months, when it should be increasing considering that its a open source product.

I have always been impressed with Google maps. The amazing use of Ajax with real-time zooming of maps and places. Though I been a bit envious of the US because they get detailed maps with names of places, roads etc marked out and shown on it. Unfortunately for people like me living in India and other countries this Information is not available we have to do with the Satellite images.

This is where WikiMapia created by Alexandre Koriakine and Evgeniy Saveliev can help, its a mashup which uses the Google maps API . In the case of wikimapia it combines both the service of a User Driven Content like a Wiki and Google maps. Though it won’t be 100% accurate it is still pretty reliable, an example of user driven content is the Wikipedia itself. This Web Service is a great hit especially in India though people have taken it to the extent of marking out their homes. If you can’t find your house or place on the map you can add the place freely, it get immediately updated on the website. I was simply wowed by how detailed the number of places were. The more I zoomed in the more places popuped up. In fact I found that my house was already marked out.

You can even Embed the Maps on your webpages if you want. Pretty useful if you want to show someone else the way to a certain place.

How to add Maps to your blog or Webpage.

1) Go anywhere on the WikiMapia.org site and find the part or area on the map that you would like to show.
2) Click WikiMapia at the top right corner and choose map on your page link.
3) Move and resize frame you see to desired view, adjust view setting if needed and copy the given html code to your page or blog.

Example Show below of Taj Mahal

Updated: You Might also Want To Read, Myspace Hack : Profile And MySpace Email

Myspace has become ridiculously easy to hack. I try my best to keep this blog updates with the latest hacks/codes that I find over the internet. These days even amateurs spend their time trying to hack into Myspace. I seen a number of hacks and codes released for Myspace from hacks and code for private profiles, pictures, videos, comments etc. As Myspace continues to patch up these hacks but users keep discovering new security holes and hacks and code. Just do a google search for “Myspace hack” or “Myspace code” you’ll find tons of websites that claim to have found some kind of vulnerability on myspace or found some code that can compromise Myspace security settings for private profiles, pictures, videos, comments etc. Majority of the users searching for myspace hacks/code are usually people who either want to check up on their girlfriends or boyfriends. Most of these codes to hack Myspace involve some kind of url modification.

Update 27 October 2006: Latest Codes updated.
New Code: to view Private blogs Added
Credit: Grownupgeek, joyboner

Code :

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.edit&friendID=XXXXXX&blogID=XXXXXX

Explanation :
This is just an URL hack so it won’t last long,
1. You replace the friendID with their friendid, and blogid with their blogid… got it?

Well to view these the profile has to be public, or a friend of yours. You have to be able to see the blogs listed on their profile.

To get friendID and blogID, right click on the link and copy it, pick out the friendID and blogID.

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=122498109&blogID=184962006&MyToken=1f49gc99-83e9-45y0-b1dc-1de09d556d27

View Private Pictures: *dead!
- use one of the following urls by replacing the XX’s with the desired friend ID.

http://forum.myspace.com/user/viewPicture.cfm?friendid=XXXXXX
http://groups.myspace.com/user/viewPicture.cfm?friendid=XXXXXX
http://editprofile.myspace.com/user/viewPicture.cfm?friendid=XXXXXX

View Private Comments: *dead!
- use one of the following urls by replacing the XX’s with the desired friend ID.
- to get past the 1st page, change the page=0 to page=1, page=2, ect..
- as agreed, thegeek from the that site also has other working codes for viewing comments on private profiles.. you can find them by doing a google search for “grownupgeek”

Message ANYONE: *alivish!
- works with private profiles & away messages. this one needs to be fixed now!
- use one of the following urls by replacing the XX’s with the desired friend ID.

http://messaging.myspace.com/Modules/Messaging/Pages/SendMessage.aspx?fuseaction=mail.reply&friendId=XXXX

http://uk.myspace.com/Modules/Messaging/Pages/SendMessage.aspx?fuseaction=mail.reply&friendId=XXXX

View Private Blogs: *alive!
- this is for private BLOGS not private profile blogs..
- props to both Rachel & Metasyntactic for this one!
- this one doesn’t need the replacing of friend ID’s.. just one word

example: if you go to view a blog and you see the red text saying that this blog is set for friends only, or preferred list only, or set to blog owner only, all you have to do is change one word in the url.

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&blogID=1234&friendid=1234

change the red to:

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.edit&blogID=1234&friendid=1234

<del>Update October 14: Thank to </del><del>Grownupgeek</del><del> again for pointing out newly available hacks. </del>

<del>Also Found a new website which keeps the latest codes upto date. Check it out </del><del>http://www.joyboner.com/archives/53</del><del>

<del>Update September 16: Head over to read </del><del>Myspace hack to download any song for Free Again.</del><del> I think myspace has turned into what windows has done for operating systems.
<del>Update: September 13: Yet another hack has been discovered by </del><del>Grownupgeek</del><del> this time it allows you to view comments posted on private Myspace profiles. </del><del>Grownupgeek</del><del> is running a poll to see if it should be posted up </del><del>go and vote here. </del><del>Update: September 9: Another security hole again by </del><del>GrownupGeek </del><del>who was tipped off about it. </del>

<del>This security hole in Myspace will allow anyone to view upcoming friend’s birthdays on Myspace profiles that are marked as private. This new hole is particularly interesting because it gives anyone the opportunity to see who the ‘friends’ are on a private profile, providing that person has an upcoming birthday. Below is the URL modification that exposes upcoming birthdays on private Myspace profiles: http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction= user.birthdays&friendid=XXXXXXX *insert the Myspace friendID at the end in place of the XXXXX</del>

<del>UPDATE: September 3: A New security Hole has been discovered. This time you can use to view private videos. Its not such a great hack since </del><del>youtube</del><del> is more popular for hosting videos. The hack again makes use of simple URL Modifications. Myspace sure has some lousy programmers. The hack is given below.
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction =vids.showvids&friendid=XXXXXXX *insert the Myspace friendID at the end in place of the XXXXX
Once again thanks to </del><del>GrownupGeek</del><del> UPDATE: August 31: The second hole has also been patched up.</del> <del>Update August 29th: A new security Hole has been discovered though the exploit/hack has not been show. you can read it here. Myspace private profiles still open to SIMPLE URL vulnerability Update August 28th: Myspace has patched this security hole it will no longer work</del> <del>Ok the title sounds rather dramatic. grownupgeek is a geek website. Someone initially started a thread How to view Private Profiles in Myspace to see if there way a way to hack into myspace to view private profiles and picture. The hack was discovered by xxrachelnicolexx. The hack is rather simple wonder why no one found this earlier. Everyone know Myspace sucks big time, its mostly infested with Teenagers and pedophiles. Orginal Post here Below is the Myspace code that can be used to view private profiles</del>

http://editprofile.myspace.com/index.cfm? fuseaction=profile.safeDeleteComments&FriendID=***

Replace *** with the Myspace friendID

To view the pictures on a private profile, try this

<del>
http://collect.myspace.com/user/viewPicture.cfm? friendID= **
</del> <del></del>

<del>Replace ** with the friendID there</del>
