Facebook Hack : Switch Or Turn Off Facebook Lite To Default

I was using Facebook when I saw the ad on the side recommending me to switch to Facebook lite for a faster and better user experience. So I clicked on it hoping to change back to the regular Facebook interface once I was done with exploring Facebook Lite. Facebook lite is an simplified version of Facebook, that lets you use facebook without the clutter of various Facebook Applications spamming your Wall and Feed. But the funny thing is there was no link anywhere which I could use to switch back to the regular interface. I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to Switch off the Facebook Lite Interdface change back to the default Facebook interface. I could see that the URL of the the Facebook Lite page was http://lite.facebook.com/ and when I tried entering http://facebook.com/ it would redirect me back to http://lite.facebook.com/. After a lot of hunting around I found a couple of solutions.

Official way to Switch off Facebook Lite

On the top right hand corner before the search box you’ll see two small icons, the first on looks like a spanner click this, this will take you to the facebook lite settings page.

Now click on default site

Select. When I go to Facebook.com, show me, Regular Facebook. and click save you should be done. You also have the option of checking Let me switch between regular Facebook and Facebook Lite If you select this option, a blue bar will appear at the top of Facebook that enables you to switch back and forth between the two versions i.e Facebook Lite and the default Facebook Interface.

Use The Facebook Feeback Form

Scroll way down to the bottom of the facebook lite interface at the bottom you’ll see a small link called feedback click this., You’ll see a new page at the top it will say Looking to get back to the regular Facebook? Just click here. Just click the given link it should turn off the Facebook Lite interface and send you back to the regular Facebook interface.

Other Methods are listed below but not Guaranteed to work.

Change Facebook URL Link

You’ll notice that the Url has changed to http://lite.facebook.com/ just change this back to http://facebook.com/. This doesn’t work all the time you can try to use http://lite.facebook.com/home.php

Clear Your browser Cookies and Cache

Clear your browser cookies and cache and try logging into facebook again, the facebook lite interface should be gone now.
For Internet Explorer users go to your menu bar and click Tools –> Internet Options –> Delete Cookies and Delete Files
For Firefox Users go to your menu bar and click Tools –> Clear recent History –> Select all the options and click Clear all

Facebook Chat, Google Gtalk Intergration Coming Soon

A year back Facebook had announced that they were building a XMPP interface for Facebook Chat. Which is the same protocol that Google has used to build Google Gtalk, Google’s popular Instant messaging service. Process One’s bot IMTrends has detected that Facebook has implemented the Jabber/XMPP Protocol.

So what is XMPP? XMPP formerly called Jabber, is a messaging protocol based on XML. The Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) is an open technology for real-time communication, which powers a wide range of applications including instant messaging, presence, multi-party chat, voice and video calls, collaboration, lightweight middleware, content syndication, and generalized routing of XML data. Unlike most instant messaging protocols, XMPP is an open standard. Like e-mail, it is an open system where anyone who has a domain name and a suitable Internet connection can run their own XMPP server and talk to users on other servers. The standard server implementations and many clients are also free and open source software.

This is big new this means you’ll be able to chat with Gmail and Google users. This means Google users will be able to interact with Facebook users using the same IM Chat clients. Which means you’ll be soon able to use Facebook chat on any of your favorite instant messaging desktop or web based clients.

Free Online Virus Scan Using Multiple Anti-Virus Tools

Have you ever come across a suspicious looking file and you wished you could scan with multiple anti-virus tools. VirusTotal is one such tool which you can use to scan a file with a huge number of anti-virus tools and programs. It can even scan a zip file if it is not password protected. Etremely useful if you want to check suspicious looking attachments that people send.

Opera Sucks, At Least Some People Have Sense

Everybody loves to hate Microsoft. If you don’t thrash talk about Microsoft or IE you are not considered a Uber Web Geek. Opera took upon it self to sue Microsoft by complaining to the European Commission and force them to follow web standards. And its the lamest thing they could do. At least some people have sense and are not taking sides.

Today we have taken a stand. Opera has filed a formal complaint with the European Commission to force Microsoft to support open Web standards in its Web browser, Internet Explorer. We believe that Microsoft has harmed Web standards by refusing to support them; Microsoft often participates in creating Web standards, promoting them, and even promising to implement them. Despite their talent, however, they refuse to support Web standards correctly. For example, Internet Explorer is the only modern Web browser that does not support Acid2.

Sure IE 7 doesn’t have the best support for Web Standards but at least Microsoft is trying. Hey I am web designer and I hate IE. But lets not forget that IE was at one time the most advanced and sophisticated Browser heck IE was the first to implement the concept of AJAX.

The XMLHttpRequest concept was originally developed by Microsoft as part of Outlook Web Access 2000, as a server side API call. At the time, it was not a standards-based web client feature; however, de facto support for it was implemented by many major web browsers. The Microsoft implementation is called XMLHTTP. It has been available since the introduction of Internet Explorer 5.0[5] and is accessible via JScript, VBScript and other scripting languages supported by IE browsers.

I like it how Peter-Paul Koch, puts it.

Nonetheless, I have to point out the potentially disastrous consequences of “asking the European Commission to require Microsoft to follow fundamental and open Web standards accepted by the Web-authoring communities.”

Opera is begging a political body to take control of web standards.

Also I find Eric Meyers Response pretty awesome.

Look, the time to file this motion and make this appeal was in 2005, when Internet Explorer had been dead in the water for years and it was genuinely holding back web design. Then thereâ€™d have been a case to make. When IE7 came out in late 2006, it wasnâ€™t a great leap forward for web development, but it did bring IE more or less in line with where browsers were at the timeâ€”which was, frankly, a pretty large leap. After all, they were doing five years of catch-up with a pretty small team. Now we have IE8 in development, and there is a real chance that it could push standards support forward in a significant way.

Its pretty clear Opera has a clear conflict of interest.

As has been widely reported, software developer Opera, has filed an antitrust complaint with the EU to force Microsoft to support open Web standards in Internet Explorer and to carry alternative browsers pre-installed on Windows. What has not yet been discussed is the devastating and destabilizing effect that this will undoubtably have on the development of future CSS.

Following Opera’s action, today I am calling on Bert Bos, chairman of the CSS Working Group, and those higher up within the W3C including Sir Tim Berners Lee, to immediately disband the CSS Working Group in its current form. I am asking for immediate action to be taken on the formulation of a replacement CSS Working Group that will include new members who are not the representatives of browser vendors. Instead the new CSS Working Group should consist of people, including some who already serve on the group, who are committed to seeing the development of CSS3 succeed because that is central to the success of our profession. This new group need not start from scratch, but should instead build uponn the significant advances and hard work of the current CSS Working Group.

Prism and XUL Could Have Been A Silverlight And Adobe AIR Killer

Rich Internet Application are the future of Web Based Applications and we have seen a number of competing technologies come up in the last year namely Silverlight, Adobe AIR and Prism. In the future we will see a tighter integration between desktop applications and the web. I couldn’t help noticing the similarities between XUL, Silverlight and And Adobe AIR. A few common similarities that I immediately noticed are.

All of them use a some form of Proprietary XML (A super set of HTML) to define the User Interface.
The emphasis on the use of existing Web technologies like DOM, JavaScript and CSS.
Cross Platform. (Silverlight for Linux called Moonlight is under development and Adobe AIR will run on Linux once version 1.0 is out)

Some people like to point out that XAML is a ripoff of XUL. I don’t fully agree with them, but I am sure Microsoft did borrow some ideas from XUL, but that’s technology my friend, ideas are meant to be copied if someone can do it better then they deserve to win.

One thing that differentiates Silverlight and Adobe AIR from XUL is that both of them come with a runtime engine based on their own advanced Proprietary technology and programming languages i.e. .NET and Flash which greatly enhances their capabilities. And this is where both Silverlight and AIR beat Prism /XUL hands down.

Its interesting to see that Mozilla is pushing Prism as an answer to Silverlight and Adobe AIR. I frankly feel its a rather poor attempt since I don’t see much difference between FireFox and Prism, i.e, Prism is just a stripped down version of FireFox.

XUL had a very good chance at taking a shot at Silverlight and AIR long before they had even come out. XUL, Canvas and SVG could have made a really powerful combination.

Some of the key reasons why XUL fails to compete

Lack of proper documentation Examples.
No marketing.
No advanced programming capabilities.
Inability to package as a Offline desktop Application.
A Good IDE. (You can’t expect Web Developers to waste time programming in Notepad)

Out of the three I feel Adobe AIR holds a lot of promise, Silverlight is too tied in to Microsoft own platform and they don’t seem committed to making it work on Linux (if they were they would have developed it they selves instead of giving off the work to Miguel de Icaza and the Mono developers) also it is not possible to native develop desktop applications. Prism/XUL is too raw and unfocused to be considered a worthy competitor.

Goog and Live 411

Both Google and Windows Live has released their own 411 service. If you don’t know what a 411 service please click HERE. There are demos for both Live 411 and Google 411. However, I think that Google 411 is better. Once again, like all other Google services, it is very easy to use. Whereas, with Live 411, you are asked to reply to what seems like a zillion questions. Both services are free to use.

Window Live Launches Messenger Web Widget

The Window Live Messenger Team has launched a web based Messenger widget that can be embedded in blogs and website. This is similar to the widgets provided by meebome.com and plugoo.com. But unlike meebo and plugoo which are flash based this widget is javascript based. Using this widget even anonymous users who visit your blog can send you an IM which will pop-up in your Windows Live messenger. See the screen shots below. I have played around with the meebo and plugoo gadgets and personally feel they are very unproductive and a huge time waster if you install it on a site that gets lots of hits. I once installed it on my blog a really long time back and was constantly bombarded with IMs. While I did meet a few interesting readers most users are likely to abuse it.

American Apparel Made in India/Pakistan/Sri-Lanka

I brought a few cool T-shirts from Threadless.com and their competitor DesignByHumans.com. I am a sucker for Unique/Cool looking T-shirts I love designs that are abstract/artistic. I was a bit disappointed with the DesignByHumans.com T-shirt not by the fact that the T-shirt was made in Pakistan (which was a big surprise for me), the T-shirt wasn’t that great and definitely not worth the 20+10$ I spent. The Threadless.com T-shirts were better but nothing I couldn’t buy here except that they were limited edition designs.

What put me off about the Threadless T-shirts were that the labels inside had been snipped off with scissors. Unlike DesignByHumans.com they didn’t want their customers/buyers to know that the T-shirt were most probably manufactured in India/Pakistan/Sri Lanka.

But hey its so UnCool to wear a T-Shirt made in INDIA isnt it?

I remember when my dad brought me a few things when he went on a trip to the US. He got me a pair of Rebook shoes made in China and a windbreaker jacket made in Sri-Lanka all from the USA.

American Apparel buys spun yarns in U.S. but imports organic yarn from Turkey, Pakistan.

Cotton Ginny uses certified organic cotton grown in India; the T-shirts are made in India.

Gap grows and spins its organic cotton in India. Fabric is cut and sewn in Sri Lanka.

Joe Fresh T-shirts are manufactured in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and the cotton is sourced in China.

New Organic spins its U.S.-grown organic Pima cotton in Switzerland.

Most of the T-shirt made in India come from Tirupur. Its a T-Shirt Fanatic’s heaven, but you’ll need to know the right place to go, also it would be helpful if you knew someone there, its easy to get lost there and its hard to determine the quality of stuff unless you are a fabric expert. There are endless shops piled with T-shirts/Garments of every kind. During my college days I made a trip there after a few of my friends from Tirupur told me how Big Companies like Nike, Reebok were ripping off customers here in India. Apparently the T-Shirts were all manufactured in Tirupur and exported to US/Europe etc, where the labels were snipped off or removed, then exported back to India with a 1000% extra price tag.

Tirupur is the center of Tamil Nadu’s cotton knitwear industry and successfully markets its products in India and overseas. It is called the Knits Capital of India as it caters to famous brands and retailers from all over the world. Nearly every buyer of knitting in the world comes to Tirupur.

Some of the world’s largest retailers including Walmart, Switcher, Diesel, ARMY, Tommy Hilfiger, M&S, FILA, H&M, Pink Lemonade, HTHP, Whale, Reebok, VALUE, PitStop, RESPECT import many textiles items and clothing from Tirupur.

Team Hoyt is a father (Dick Hoyt) and son (Rick Hoyt, b. 1962) in Massachusetts who compete together in marathons, triathlons, and other athletic endeavors. Rick was disabled at birth by a loss of oxygen to his brain because his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck, and he also suffers from cerebral palsy. Dick carries him in a special seat up front as they bike, pulls him in a special boat as they swim, and pushes him in a special wheelchair as they run. 3. Nick Vujicic Is a Giant of a Man

I happened to see this video while it was being played in a church in Bangalore 3 weeks back. Nick is is my hero plus he too darn funny. Once you finished watching the video you can check out his MySpace Profile and Pictures some of the pictures are too touching. Nick Vujicic was born limbless, missing both arms at shoulder level, and having one small foot with two toes protruding from his left thigh. Initially his parents were devastated, however Nick turned out to be otherwise perfectly healthy. His life was filled with difficulties and hardships. Nick graduated from college at the age of 21, and began his travels as a motivational speaker, focusing on the topics that today’s teenagers face. He also speaks in the corporate sector, however his aim is to become an international inspirational speaker, in both Christian and non-Christian venues. He regularly travels internationally to speak to Christian congregations. By the age of 25 he hopes to become financially independent, however he wishes to promote his words through shows like The Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as writing books. 7 Reasons Why Your Blog Sucks And Digger Hate You

Ever seen the word Blog Spam being repeatedly used by a number of DIGG users. My last post “15 Crazy Cool Photo and Video Sites” almost made it to DIGG before it got buried even though I managed to get more than 40 DIGG Votes. I have been trying to figure out why it got buried. Here are a list of reasons why I think I/we suck most of the time.

Rehashing Re-posting News.

Your blog doesn’t have any original content. You survive solely by re-posting and rehashing news from around the Internet. Your posts are barely more than a paragraph, half of which has been copy pasted or reworded from somewhere else. You leave a tiny link at the bottom to credit the original source.

No Authority

Even though you’ve been blogging for a long time, you are a jack of all trades and master of none. You do not have any authority over any particular subject or niche, Or your posts do not reflect any expertise. You are happy being what you are, and you see no room for improvement or progress.

No Tact Or Diplomacy

You’ve been know to be very outspoken and critical, and have used abusive language. You don’t know how to be diplomatic. You don’t have the tact or diplomacy to word your content carefully without hurting others. You are a Smart-ass Show Off etc etc.

More Ads than content

Your Blog is laden with Ads and Affiliates links. Your blog is about “make money online”. All you talk about is SEO, Adsense and how much money you made last month. Your posts are littered with affiliate links. Your always looking for shortcuts to gain quick money and traffic.

No Credibility

You do PayPerPost, ReviewMe and paid reviews. You do not disclosed in your posts and think your readers don’t know.

Language, Grammatically errors

You frequently make grammatical and spelling error. English is not your first language. You don’t run your article through a spell check before posting it online. You use at lot of OMGs, Lols and :) in your posts.

Bad Design

Your blog design sucks, its one of those commonly used themes which claim to be made for Adsense and SEO. The font in your design it too small to read. You are using too many widgets, blog bling to jazz up your site.
